November's weather is cold and nasty, but it's never been so hot in Zabbix office where the development department is boiling as never before. The revolutionary, long awaited Zabbix 1.8 with brand new and improved good old features is about to be released from day to day. So far, to bate your curiosity Zabbix 1.7.1 alpha is available right now. More details about it and other interesting news read in this newsletter.

Zabbix 1.7.1 alpha release has been announced recently. Now it's possible to test most of the new features of forthcoming Zabbix 1.8 at full power. Performance, notifications, configuration, discovery and check are the points that were improved at first, in particular:
- much more efficient polling,
- massive performance improvements,
- added host, template and global user defined macros,
- auto-discovery of multiple IP devices,
- added new agentless checks: SSH and Telnet,
- added support of octal and hexadecimal data and many more innovations and improvements.

Alexei Vladishev, the CEO of Zabbix SIA was invited to take part as a speaker at ITPro Expo 2009 conference which took place in Tokyo where he delivered a speech on forthcoming Zabbix 1.8. Along with that during his stay in Japan Alexei has attended Open Source Conference 2009 in Tokyo and met with Japanese members of Zabbix community. There he shared his expectations about open source in general and Zabbix in particular. We would like to thank our Premium Partner in Japan - NTTCom Technology Corporation, as without them the visit to Japan wouldn't have been so fruitful and successful.

In the beginning of December 2009 and in the middle of January 2010 two training sessions devoted to Zabbix 1.8 will be held in Zabbix SIA office in Riga, Latvia. The training will provide in-depth information about functionality and configuration of Zabbix along with hands-on workshop and exercises. Nearly 40% of time will be spent on practical work.
