In today’s newsletter we are talking about Zabbix upcoming and past social events, which are all based on the priceless direct interaction between the Zabbix team and Zabbix users, the community and followers. We truly value the possibility to meet all these people in person and believe that such experience of face-to-face meetings is a strong force for further development.

Zabbix European Tour Has Begun

Last week Zabbix management team opened its European tour of Business Meetings 2013 starting with the UK, London and Belgium, Brussels. The two events brought a very positive experience not only to the Zabbix team, but also to attending representatives of local companies from a wide range of industries, such as IT, education, telecommunications, electronics, retail, consulting and governmental.

Both Zabbix business meetings were kindly opened with an introductory speech by Latvian ambassadors, H.E. Mr Eduards Stiprais, Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and H.E. Ms Lelde Līce – Līcīte, Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to Belgium.

Learn About Zabbix at Linuxwochen Wien 2013

Next week, on May 2nd, Day 1 of Linuxwochen Wien 2013, Volker Fröhlich from the Medical University of Vienna, will be giving a speech about Zabbix called “Monitoring Your IT Infrastructure with Zabbix”. His talk will explain basic Zabbix architecture and concepts, introduce terminology, give an overview of Zabbix capabilities and show the ways of how Zabbix can be adapted and extended to suit customer needs. Volker Fröhlich will also share some of the lessons learned from using Zabbix for two years now.

The Linuxwochen Wien is an event that features talks, presentations, workshops and a trade show for a broad scope of audience, including IT users, developers, administrators, companies and government agencies. Linuxwochen Wien 2013 will run for three days from May 2nd to May 4th and will take place at FH Technikum Wien.

For everyone planning to attend this event, we hope that you will have the chance to join the upcoming talk on Zabbix!

Release of Zabbix 2.0.6

Zabbix 2.0.6 was released with several new features and improvements. We've completely changed how low-level discovery items are processed to reduce the load on the database and minimize the risk of deadlocks. To improve the user experience on large installations we've optimized the dashboard widgets in the frontend. Multiple new notification macros like {TRIGGER.TEMPLATE.NAME}, {TRIGGER.HOSTGROUP.NAME}, {TRIGGER.NAME.ORIG}, {ITEM.NAME.ORIG} and {ITEM.KEY.ORIG} have been implemented to make notifications more flexible.

Zabbix - Product of the Month by SourceForge

Yesterday, on April 22nd, SourceForge.net published the projects it supports this month.  And guess what? Zabbix software is one of those, giving our product the great honour to be announced as Project of the Month among other thousands of software available on the market!

Support for IPMI discrete sensors [ZBXNEXT-300]

Zabbix 2.0 supported only analog IPMI sensors which limited Zabbix IPMI monitoring capabilities. In 2.2 we will implement the ability to read the states of discrete IPMI sensors. You can now use the new band() (bitwise AND) and the improved count()  functions to configure triggers with discrete IPMI sensor items.
